
Patiala, February 8, 2026 — The Governor of Punjab, through the Governor’s Secretariat, Lok Bhavan Punjab, Chandigarh, has announced the appointment of Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill as the Vice-Chancellor of The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala, for a tenure of three years with effect from the date of assumption of office.
The appointment was made by the Chancellor of MBSPSU in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 1 of the Schedule [Section 26(1)] of The Statutes of the University of the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University Act, 2019. The official notification was issued on February 8, 2026, by Vivek Pratap Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary to Governor, Punjab.
Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill brings over 36 years of distinguished experience in academia, research, administration, and international consulting to this prestigious position. A retired Professor from Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr. Gill has served in various leadership capacities that uniquely position him to lead Punjab’s premier sports university toward excellence.
Dr. Gill holds a Doctorate from Punjabi University, Patiala (1993), specializing in “Marketing Executive Effectiveness In Relation To Job Involvement And Locus of Control.” He completed his M.B.A. in Marketing and Material Management (1987) and B.A. Honours in Economics (1984), both with First Division from Punjabi University, Patiala.
During his illustrious academic career at Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr. Gill served as:
Professor, School of Management Studies (23 years, 2 months)
Associate Professor/Reader (7 years)
Assistant Professor/Lecturer (6 years, 4 months)
Adding to his academic credentials, Dr. Gill served as Chief Executive Officer for The Coca-Cola Company in Africa (Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Nigeria) from 1999 to 2001, bringing valuable corporate governance and strategic management expertise to higher education administration.
Dr. Gill’s scholarly achievements include:

10 authored books including “The Punjab That Was Not” (Volumes I, II, III), “Strategic Management,” “Principles of Management,” and works on tourism management

Dr. Gill has successfully supervised 30 doctoral candidates to completion, contributing significantly to building research capacity in management and business studies.
